Red Rock Renewables has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling e-waste and digital exclusion by renewing its partnership with Edinburgh Remakery, a King’s Award winning social enterprise and Scotland’s leading Social ITAD for a third consecutive year and becoming a Strategic Partner of the organisation.
As part of its ongoing support for the Edinburgh-based environmental charity, Red Rock has made a £1,000 donation to sponsor six weeks of Edinburgh Remakery’s popular weekly Repair Cafés. Held every Friday at the charity’s Event Hub, the sessions provide members of the public with the opportunity to bring along tech and textiles for repair, learn practical skills from expert technicians and sewing tutors, and help prevent valuable items from ending up in landfill. Operating on a Pay What You Can basis, the cafés make repair skills accessible to everyone while supporting a more circular economy.
The sponsorship will help Edinburgh Remakery continue delivering these community repair sessions, which reduce waste, save people money and keep valuable repair skills alive.
As part of the partnership, three members of the Red Rock team volunteered at Edinburgh Remakery’s community hub, spending a morning assisting with the segregation and processing of electronic waste. Working alongside Edinburgh Remakery staff, they helped identify materials and components that could be reused or recycled, supporting the charity’s mission to extend the life of valuable resources and reduce the volume of technology sent to landfill.
In addition to its financial contribution and volunteering support, Red Rock continues to utilise the charity’s Social ITAD Programme, donating Red Rock’s old tech to be assessed for refurbishment and reuse wherever possible, helping to extend the life of tech and support digital inclusion within communities.
E-waste is the world’s fastest-growing waste stream, with millions of devices discarded each year while many people across the UK remain digitally excluded. Edinburgh Remakery addresses both challenges by repairing, refurbishing and gifting tech to people facing digital exclusion through their Tech Gifting Programme, extending the life of devices while improving access to digital equipment, skills and opportunities.

At the heart of its work is a social IT Asset Disposition (sITAD) programme that helps businesses responsibly dispose of surplus/old tech while maximising environmental and social impact.
