Red Rock Renewables’ Asset Analyst, Patrick I’Anson, crossed the finish line at last weekend’s Edinburgh Marathon, raising vital funds for our 2025/2026 Charity of the Year, Alzheimer Scotland.
Patrick completed the 26.2 mile course in 4 hours and 24 minutes – a fantastic achievement after months of dedicated training.
We caught up with Patrick following the event to hear more about why he decided to take on the challenge, how the day went and why supporting Alzheimer Scotland means so much to him.
What inspired you to run the Edinburgh Marathon?
“Alzheimer’s has affected my family, so I was proud that Red Rock decided to partner up with Alzheimer Scotland. Completing a marathon has also been on my bucket list for a long time, so it felt like the perfect opportunity to combine a personal challenge with supporting a great cause.”
How did you prepare for the marathon?
“I really focused on what I ate and made sure to gradually build up the distance and duration of my runs. One of the things I enjoyed most was that running gave me the chance to explore new areas, which helped keep the training interesting.
“A real challenge was finding ways to fit training around busy weeks, but I stayed motivated by seeing the progress I was making. The support from friends, family and colleagues also made a huge difference.”
How did it feel crossing the finish line?
“It was very emotional, the final 5km was brutal but the crowds supporting everyone running helped me do the last push to the finish line. Months of training had paid off, and it was great to know that I achieved such an accomplishment.”
Why is supporting Alzheimer Scotland important?
“Dementia has such a significant impact not only on those living with the condition, but also on their families, friends and carers. Alzheimer Scotland provides vital support, advice and services to people across the country, and I’m proud to be able to contribute in some small way. Every donation makes a difference.”
Alzheimer Scotland is the leading national dementia charity in Scotland, providing support and advice to people living with dementia, their families and carers. Through local services, community groups and dementia-friendly initiatives, the charity works to ensure nobody faces dementia alone.
As Red Rock’s Charity of the Year, colleagues across the business have supported Alzheimer Scotland through fundraising and awareness activities including an office bake sale, taking part in The Buccleuch Property Challenge and even an inflatable obstacle course.
Claire Hart-McCullagh, Head of Corporate Support at Red Rock Renewables said: “We’re incredibly proud of Patrick for taking on such a huge challenge in support of Alzheimer Scotland. His efforts reflect the fantastic commitment shown by everyone at Red Rock in supporting our Charity of the Year.”
