Red Rock Renewables and its Edinburgh–based team continues to support Edinburgh Remakery, an award-winning environmental social enterprise dedicated to repairing, reusing and refurbishing old technology. This marks the second annual partnership in as many years, continuing Red Rock’s commitment to supporting the circular economy and minimising the impact of digital poverty.
Team members recently volunteered at the Remakery’s community hub, assisting with e-waste segregation. The day involved stripping down devices unsuitable for repair so that reusable parts could be salvaged and used to fix other items. Components that were beyond repair were dismantled further, with circuit boards containing precious metals sent to The Royal Mint for extraction and reuse, ensuring that nothing goes to waste.
Red Rock has also contributed £5,000 towards the charity’s Tech Gifting Programme and over 287 outdated IT assets as part of its office relocation earlier this year. This support will help to provide 20 refurbished devices to people facing digital poverty, helping them access education, employment and essential services.
Claire Hart-McCullagh, Head of Corporate Support, said: “We are proud to continue supporting Edinburgh Remakery and its vital work to reduce waste, promote reuse and support communities across the city. The Remakery’s vision to create a culture of sustainability and to protect the planet mirrors our own commitment, and we look forward to working with the team for another year.
“Our team found the hands-on work and stories of how the Remakery creates real benefits to local people very rewarding; it gave us a real insight into the importance of tackling e-waste and how simple actions can make a big difference.”
Elaine Brown, CEO of Edinburgh Remakery, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Red Rock Renewables for their ongoing support. Their generous £5,000 donation will help us tackle digital poverty by gifting refurbished laptops to people who need them most. In addition, their volunteer team was phenomenal, helping us dismantle and sort e-waste for repair, reuse and responsible recycling. Support like this truly makes all the difference in our mission to build a more sustainable and inclusive future.”
